Yamaha MT-09
What if a naked bike could still surprise you after ten years on the road?
On the volcanic roads of Lanzarote, the Yamaha MT-09 proves that torque, character and fun are far from outdated.
Preview – Yamaha MT-09: Master of Torque Revisited
For more than a decade, the Yamaha MT-09 has been one of the most characterful players in the hyper-naked segment. With its punchy three-cylinder engine and playful attitude, it never aimed to be the most polished option, only the most fun. The latest update doesn’t change that philosophy, but it does refine it.

Tested on the dramatic roads of Lanzarote, the MT-09 feels sharper and more mature without losing its edge. The aggressive new design gives it a stronger presence, while the updated electronics bring it firmly into the modern era. A clear TFT display, multiple ride modes, traction control and a refined quickshifter all work intuitively, without overwhelming the rider.

At the heart of the bike remains Yamaha’s 890 cc three-cylinder engine. It delivers torque everywhere, responds eagerly to throttle input and injects personality into every ride. On flowing island roads, the MT-09 feels stable and confident, rewarding smooth riding with grip and control. The suspension is firmer than before, yet still comfortable enough for everyday use.

The riding position strikes a good balance between sport and comfort, making the MT-09 just as usable for daily riding as for spirited weekend escapes. It may not be the lightest or the most extreme naked bike out there, but it remains one of the most engaging.

The MT-09 hasn’t grown tame with age. It has simply grown better keeping its playful soul intact while adding just enough refinement to stay relevant in a competitive segment.
