Preview – Vanucci Tanami II, Summer Touring Without the Premium Price Tag

Vanucci may sound Italian, but the brand is firmly German at heart. Developed and tested in-house by Louis, Europe’s largest motorcycle gear retailer, Vanucci aims to deliver solid performance at a competitive price. The Tanami II jacket and trousers were chosen almost two years ago as a full touring outfit and have since been tested across thousands of kilometres in Europe and beyond.

Designed primarily as a summer suit, the Tanami II makes its intentions clear from the start. Light colours, extensive ventilation panels and zip-open vents under the arms, across the chest, back and knees ensure constant airflow when temperatures rise. In practice, this makes long summer rides far more bearable than many heavier touring outfits. Some vents even double as storage, adding to the suit’s practical nature.

Storage is one of the Tanami II’s standout features. Large pockets especially the generous rear pocket on the jacket often eliminate the need for a backpack on day rides. Drinks, food, gloves and small essentials all find a place, while the trousers offer additional storage for items like a phone or wallet. Over time, this practicality becomes almost addictive: every item has its dedicated pocket, and you immediately notice when something is missing.

Fit and adjustability are impressive at this price point. Jacket and trousers can be sized separately, and a wide range of straps, zips and adjustment points allow fine-tuning around elbows, waist, hips, knees and ankles. Stretch panels in key areas keep movement natural and unrestricted, even during active riding. Reflective details add visibility without disrupting the understated design.

"The Tanami II is unapologetically a warm-weather suit."

The Tanami II is unapologetically a warm-weather suit. Below around 10°C, its limitations become clear, and it’s best paired with warmer layers or replaced by a more insulated outfit. Water resistance is adequate for normal rain, though prolonged downpours will eventually push its limits especially if the recommended waterproof treatment is ignored. In fairness, few summer suits claim full storm immunity.

Where the Tanami II truly earns respect is safety. During an early crash in India triggered by an unavoidable encounter with a cow the trousers absorbed the impact and slid across the asphalt without tearing. Despite the speed and surface, injuries were limited to minor scrapes. The trousers survived as well, damaged but still usable. It’s a real-world reminder that protection doesn’t have to come with a premium price tag.

After countless kilometres, dusty roads and varied climates, the suit remains in remarkably good condition. The darker colour scheme hides dirt well, making maintenance easy even without frequent washing. Comfort ultimately defines riding gear, and that’s where the Tanami II succeeds most convincingly. It stays out of the rider’s head. No pressure points, no constant adjustments just ride, even on long days.

With a price well below many competitors and occasional discounts that make it even more attractive the Vanucci Tanami II offers an honest, practical solution for riders looking for reliable summer touring gear without overspending.
